DEVECO INHIBITOR K-1

Deveco Inhibitor K-1 is a superior acid additive for the pickling of steel.  It enables strongly adherent surface layers of heat treat oxides and scale to be removed with no discoloration effects or over pickling damage such as smutting and etching. 

Deveco Inhibitor K-1 contains wetting agents that reduce the amount of acid dragged out, thus resulting in lower acid usage.  The inhibitors allow the acid to act on scale and rust, but prevents attack on the steel itself.  Thus, acid usage is limited to only what is required.

The elimination of attack on the substrate minimizes the formation of hydrogen gas, so the possibility of hydrogen embrittlement on high strength steels is greatly reduced.  This also allows higher concentrations of acid without fear of excessively pickling the parts.

Deveco Inhibitor K-1 is a non-flammable concentrate, generally added at 10% of the acid's concentration.  The combination of emulsifiers, dispersants, surfactants and wetting agents lowers the surface tension in the acid, increases the aggressiveness of the acid to heat scales, holds soils in suspension, enables the acid to emulsify light oils, and reduces the generation of hydrogen gas, thereby reducing the acid mist in the surrounding area.

A successful cleaning cycle has been:

1. Soak clean in an alkaline cleaner to remove the bulk of the oils and scale.

2. Pickle in 10 to 50% Muriatic acid, depending on the severity of the rust and scale, with 1 to 5% of Deveco Inhibitor K-1 added.

3. Electroclean at 6 to10 volts in an alkaline electrocleaner.

4. Optional  - 5% Muriatic dip to remove alkaline film.

5. Plate.

Deveco Inhibitor K-1 should be kept above 40 ^oF storage temperature.

Protect eyes and ski from contact.  If spilled on skin wash with water for a few minutes.  If it is splashed in the eyes, wash with water for 10 minutes and contact a physician immediately.
